It is with great regret that we report the passing of the following personnel.

The Association offers it’s sincere condolences.

 

The Commissioner regrets to advise of the sad passing of 
retired Superintendent Allen JACOBSON (1247) 
finishing his career as a Metropolitan Superintendent.

Allen passed away Thursday 8th July 2024 aged 97 years.

Allen joined NSW Fire Brigades on 25th June 1948 and served for over 36 years and 11 months
 at various fire stations including 001 Headquarters, 10 Redfern, 
21 Kogarah, 39 Randwick, 29 Rockdale, 35 Botany, 203 Albury.
He was appointed to Fire Prevention Department – Canberra and served in Newcastle as an Inspector.
Allen was also awarded the Fire Brigades Long Service and Good Conduct medal and the National Medal. 

The family will be having a private memorial to celebrate Allen’s life.



The Commissioner regrets to advise of the sad passing of 
retired Station Officer Ronald 'Ron' JEFFREY (3111) 
formerly a Regional Training Officer.
Ron passed away peacefully on Thursday 25th July 2024 with his family by his side.

Ron joined New South Wales Fire Brigades on 24th June 1964 
and retired on 9th February 2001 serving for 37 years.
Ron served at 39 Randwick, 10 Redfern, 36 Crows Nest, 50 Hornsby, 304 Gosford, 1 
City of Sydney, 61 Lane Cove, 374 Maitland and finished his career as Regional Training Officer North.

The Commissioner regrets to advise of the sad passing of 
retired Deputy Captain Raymond PHELPS (253004) 
formerly of 253 Casino.
Ray passed away peacefully on Monday 29th July 2024 with his family by his side.

Ray joined New South Wales Fire Brigades on 15th October 1969 
and retired as Deputy Captain on 27th October 2006 serving for 37 years.
Ray served as a retained firefighter at 253 Casino where he served 
with his son-in-law Captain Greg Miller for 16 years before he retired.
Ray was a very keen member of the 253 Demo/Championship team in his earlier years
 and was delighted when 253 won the State Titles in 2006 just before he retired.

The Commissioner regrets to advise of the sad passing of 
retired Station Officer Bryan GARVEY (6971) 
formerly of the Fire Investigation and Research Unit.
Bryan passed away on 27th July 2024.

Bryan joined New South Wales Fire Brigades on 11th August 1989 and retired on 6th July 2023 serving for 34 years.
Bryan served at the following fire stations and specialist departments, 33 Engadine, 46 Sutherland, 
Professional Development Unit, 21 Kogarah, Structural Fire Safety Unit, 45 Miranda, 503 Wollongong, 
Community Engagement and Development Unit, 62 Bankstown, 30 Lidcombe, Equipment Logistics, 26 Mascot 
and finished his service in the Fire Investigation and Research Unit.

Bryan was awarded the Commissioner’s Commendation on 31st January 2003 
and an Individual Commendation for Meritorious Service – 
for designing and facilitating the trial program ‘Adopt a School’ on 4th February 2008.

retired Station Officer Ian WOODLANDS (3261) 
formerly of Smithfield Fire Station.
Ian passed away Friday 26th July 2024.

Ian joined New South Wales Fire Brigades on 5th June 1964 and retired on 18th October 2002 serving for over 38 years.
Ian served at the following fire stations, 35 Botany, 49 Cabramatta, old 7 Stanmore, 16 Concord and 41 Smithfield.

The Commissioner regrets to advise of the sad passing of 
retired Station Officer John 'Critter' TAYLOR (4631) 
formerly of Beecroft Fire Station. 
John passed away after a short illness on Monday 15th July 2024.

Fondly known as 'Critter', joined New South Wales Fire Brigades on 8th October 1971 
and retired on 28th July 2006 serving for over 35 years. 

Critter served at 3 The Rocks, 37 Gordon, 01 Headquarters, 50 Hornsby, 36 Crows Nest, 59 Eastwood,
 61 Lane Cove, 42 Ryde and finished his career at 58 Beecroft Fire Station. 
John received a Commendation for Bravery for the Pinjarra Nursing Home Fire on 13th August 1986 
and a Commendation for Meritorious Service for a major fire Seaview Street, Mt Kuring-gai. 
John was living in Queensland, there will be a private ceremony with family.

Retained Firefighter Edwin Walter EVANS 
formerly of Lithgow West 

Edwin joined NSW Fire Brigades on 1st April 1959 
and served for over 32 years at 364 Lithgow West (previously Littleton Fire Station).

formerly of Lithgow. 

Dallas joined NSW Fire Brigades on 1st February 2006 
and served for over 15 years at 363 Lithgow.
